Hi gang:
We had a situation where there was a fire in one of the cutting mills, which had to be put out with an ABC fire extinguisher. We have cleaned out the mill, but I had concerns that there is some of the powder lingering on. Since our product is an off-white powder, and there may be some burnt dust in there which will look like the powder from the extinguisher, I want to know if anyone has a method to determine if there is any residual powder.
We are going to switch to a technical product, non-food grade, so that will assure that our final product is not tainted and all residual material should purge out. But I want to have a method in place if this ever happens again. The last time it happened was years ago, and no one remembers what they did.
The manufacturer of the extinguisher said that the powder would be a bit acidic, so I tried wetting some pH paper and holding it against several areas in the cutting mill. There was some color change towards the acidic, but not huge. As the paper dried, and the material got more concentrated, the color got a little more pronounced.
Thanks.

I don't have anything per se, but now you've given me food for thought!
