OK, I'm writing up my compliance manual (food safety/quality manual) for BRC and 4.16.4 talks about documented mainitenance and cleaning procedures for material handling vehicles used for loading and unloading. I'm good on the PM requirement, but we don't have a policy on when and how to clean the forklifts. Here are the important facts: We don't have loading docks, we use outside ramps so our forklifts operate on a paved surface outside We have one dedicated forklift for food grade products, but in a pinch the industrial grade product forklifts can be pressed into service to get a trailer loaded. Our product is bagged, on pallets, the pallets are covered in a plastic hood and the entire thing is shrink wrapped before it's put into the warehouse, so it's kept clean. The product is dry, not RTE, and not temperature sensitive. The product is neither high risk or high care.
The big question is...how often should our forklifts be "cleaned" and is blowing the dust off them sufficient? I'm sure that you have questions that I have not thought to answer, so fire away. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks. This actually helps justify not doing any washing style cleaning, but blowing it off might just be enough. I have to set up a schedule for it, but I'm spending the afternoons typing as it is already.
